NOVEMBER 7th 7:30 pm
Austad Auditorium

$15/$12 // Student Rush $10

GRAMMY Award-winning male chorus Chanticleer opens audiences' minds to new interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance and jazz to gospel and venturesome new music. Called "the world's reigning male chorus" by the New Yorker, the group also was named the 2008 Ensemble of the Year by Musical America. They will be presenting a program called "In time of..."

The most profound emotions shared by all of us are evoked by events both singular and seasonal.  Each of the magnificent pieces in "In time of..." stops time for a moment to illuminate the human condition.

Review by Contra Costa Times

In the three decades since its inception, Chanticleer has earned pride of place among Bay Area vocal ensembles for its exemplary performances in a wide range of repertoire. Founded in 1978 by tenor Louis Botto and originally dedicated to music of the Renaissance, the San Francisco-based men's chorus now frequently ventures into Baroque, gospel and new works with the same high level of ease and mastery. Read more about Chanticleer from a review at Contra Costa Times (Where tickets cost close to $60).

In Memorium

Melisa Reasner McGuireThis concert is supported by Richard and Kaye Woltman in memory of their daughter, Melisa Reasner McGuire.
When Melisa Reasner McGuire lost her battle with cancer at the age of 37, she left her family, friends and business associates with a , deep sense of loss, and at the same time one of gratitude for having known someone who was able to combine ambition, intelligence and business savvy with grace, integrity and honesty. Her memory is honored by two performances on this year’s Cultural Affairs season. The beautiful music of Chanticleer and Kitka is made possible through a generous donation from the Melisa Reasner McGuire Memorial Donor Advised Fund at the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation.

Thank you for bringing Chanticleer to Ogden! I didn't expect to enjoy their performance as much as I did, and I am so glad to have had the experience of listening to them live. My horizon was expanded once again as a result of a WSU Cultural Affairs performance. THanks again!

There is no way they are better than the King's Singers. They may have a smoother sound, but that is going to happen when you start to double up on parts. They have the sound of a choir. Even though they are male vocal groups and they sing the same types of songs it is like comparing apples with oranges.

Chanticleer is amazing! I first saw them perform at the Northwest ACDA convention in Eugene, Oregon in the early 90's. They are better than the King Singers.
