Chanticleer delivered a captivating performance at Weber's Austad Auditorium on Saturday night to an excited and appreciative crowd. Chanticleer performed a diverse reprertoir of compositions that left their fans amazed, laughing, and wanting more. The evening's program title "in time of..." is taken from an e. e. cummings poem of the same name. It was arranged for choral ensemble by Steven Sametz and closed the first half the performance.
I kept running into ukuleles a couple years ago. (Still do, actually) On stages, videos and in the arms of students wandering around campus, it seems the ukulele is making a comeback - or a comeforward – of mythic proportions. Then a friend showed me a youtube video of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and I knew that we needed a season of excitement and pure joyful fun that the ukulele could provide. So I held a date for them and started looking for more.
Adding Jake Shimabukuro was a no brainer, he's so good, so filled with light and looking to shine it onto the world. Then I found out that Eric Bibb was touring with Habib Koite and found a few more juicy pieces for us to enjoy. It all came together when Bobby McFerrin was confirmed. A fun, joyful, exciting season we can all look forward to!
We've made it easier to get tickets by working with the Browning Center and the Dee Event Center to offer many places to buy them, eliminating the service charges and making online ticket buying easy. Check out the ticket page at the end of the brochure, it's very relaxing.
